Vicke Lindstrand

Vicke Lindstrand (1904–1983), Victor Emanuel Lindstrand was born on November 27, 1904 in Gothenburg, educated at the School of Crafts Society in Gothenburg. From 1924 to 1941 he worked at Orrefors Glasbruk (a Swedish glassmaking company) before being hired as artistic director at Uppsala Ekeby in 1942. There he designed various objects, the most popular of which was the elephant, which came in six different sizes and colors. He also made Eskimos, donkeys, vases, bowls, pots and other works. 


In 1946 Vicke got married with Marianne, and four years later he left Uppsala Ekeby. He brings his family with him and moves to Kosta, where he gets a job as an art director in glass production at the swedish glassmaking company Kosta Boda. In 1963 he also designed objects for the German glass and porcelain manufacturer Rosenthal. Vicke Lindstrand died on May 7, 1983 in the small city Kosta. His art is represented, in renown Swedish museums like Röhsska Museet, Nationalmuseum as well as in the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. Vicke signed his pottery “VL”, while glass and crystals were mostly signed with “LH”.
